Live steam, trains, LEGO, die-cast, slot racing cars and retro figures in Tamworth toys auction

LIVE steam models, 'retired' LEGO, retro figures, car models and trains populate Richard Winterton Auctioneers' next Toys & Trains Sale on Wednesday, July 29.

Taking place at The Tamworth Auction Rooms, the sale features 452 lots and the catalogue is online now.

The upcoming sale features a diverse range of collectables - examples pictured top of page - including a CMR 1:18 model of a Ferrari racing car transporter, unbuilt Tamiya kits, Thundercats figures sealed in blister packs, Star Wars collectables and a retro King Kong figure.

There is a large amount of modern die-cast models and slot racing cars, mostly boxed and sealed, with brands including Scalextric, Minichamps, Spark, Mythos, CMR (Classic Model replicas) and CMC (Classic Model Cars), plus unbuilt kits including Tamiya 1:12 scale, and boxed Technomodel Mythos resin model vehicles.

Live steam models include Lot 481, pictured above, a five inch gauge live steam 0-6-0 'Twin Sister' tank locomotive in black livery, copied from the 1928 Fowler Dock Tank Locomotive and modified from the model originally designed and built by JA Austen-Walton and published in The Model Engineer from 1950.

This model was started in 1995, has been constructed to a very good standard, and comes with a small quantity of assorted parts, unused decals, plans, articles, photographs and correspondence regarding the build, together with a large wooden transportation case.

Lot 479 is a a two-and-a-half gauge live steam L.B.S.C. Austerity S160 2-8-0 locomotive and tender, finished as No. 1702 in L.M.S. black livery, and Lot 480 is a limited edition 1:32 scale model of The Duke Of Gloucester by The Finescale Locomotive Company for operation on Gauge 1 track, 12V electric.

Other trains include boxed Heljan O gauge locomotives.

Also featuring are more examples of sealed, boxed, limited edition and discontinued – or ‘retired’ – sets of LEGO, following last month’s sale for £2,100 of a rare promotional Star Wars LEGO set, acquired by the vendor at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con and originally limited to 1,200, and various Hasbro figures of popular franchise characters.

The catalogue for the July 29 auction is online now. View items in person at the saleroom in Church Street between 10am and 4pm on Tuesday, July 28.

On the day of the auction, people can bid online, in the room or by prior arranged telephone bid. The sale starts at 9.30am.
