Safeguarding your treasures
INSURANCE valuations determine the accurate retail replacement cost of your jewellery, watches, silverware or other treasures in the event of them being lost, stolen or damaged.
As well as ensuring you receive the correct payout to replace or repair items, a detailed valuation also proves to insurers that you own the pieces and can help establish the correct level of cover to avoid unnecessary premiums.
Richard Winterton Auctioneers offers appointments for professional insurance valuations at The Lichfield Auction Centre and The Tamworth Auction Rooms with independent valuer and gemmologist Georgina Southam MIRV FGA DGA BA (Hons).
We can also provide a secure ‘drop off and collect’ service where you can leave your treasured items with confidence at our premises.
Having an up-to-date professional valuation is a sensible idea for a number of reasons.
Proving Value
In the event of a claim, it is usually your responsibility to prove the value of lost, stolen or damaged items. Possessing a recent official valuation speeds up the process and prevents any dispute.
Insurance Limits
Most standard home and contents insurance policies have limits on single items, often around £1,500 to £2,000. Items above this limit need to listed individually on the policy to be completely covered.
Market Fluctuations
The worth of precious metals, diamonds, and gemstones changes with market fluctuations. Professional valuations every two to five years ensures your insurance aligns with current retail replacement costs. If your jewellery increases in value but the cover has not been updated, you could end up out-of-pocket in the event of a claim.
Proper Replacement
An accurate valuation provides detailed assessment of metal type, gemstones and identifying hallmarks. This will help insurers source a reasonably identical replacement.
