Toy bonanza at The Tamworth Auction Rooms! Huge collections of LEGO, die-cast, slot racing cars, trains and more

Next sale Wednesday 29th July

A ‘VAST’ accumulation of retro, modern and classic toys will go under the hammer with Richard Winterton Auctioneers in the coming months.

Staff at The Tamworth Auction Rooms are currently working their way through three large collections from different clients, with the first items scheduled for the Toys & Trains Sale on Wednesday, July 29.

There is a large amount of modern die-cast models and slot racing cars, mostly boxed and sealed, with brands including Scalextric, Minichamps, Spark, Mythos, CMR (Classic Model replicas) and CMC (Classic Model Cars), plus unbuilt kits including Tamiya 1:12 scale.

The first instalment of around 70 lots goes under the hammer on Wednesday, July 29, with more to follow in the coming months.

Also upcoming are more superb examples of sealed, boxed, limited edition and discontinued – or ‘retired’ – sets of LEGO, following last month’s sale for £2,100 of a rare promotional Star Wars LEGO set, acquired by the vendor at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con and originally limited to 1,200.

Other collectables include action figures and models.

“We currently have a vast amount of all types of retro, modern, vintage and classic toys,” said auctioneer Ben Winterton, pictured top of page.

“When it comes to auction day, time and again we see collectors motivated by the emotional pull of childhood nostalgia and personal attachment to popular franchises.

“The Tamworth Auction Rooms are well-stocked with everything from LEGO and action figures to die-cast and live steam models and our next few upcoming sales will feature plenty of sought-after collectables.”

The catalogue for the July 29 auction will go online a week before the sale via our Auction Calendar. View in person at the saleroom in Church Street between 10am and 4pm on Tuesday, July 28.

On the day of the auction, people can bid online, in the room or by prior arranged telephone bid. The sale starts at 9.30am.
