Richard Winterton Auctioneers are pleased to report a hugely successful sale of Toys, Trains and Sporting Memorabilia. Despite the weather, we had an excellent turn out here at the saleroom and a record number of online bidders from around the world. As has become expected from the Cross Keys saleroom, we saw some furious bidding and great results.
Our varied toy section attracted the crowds, as usual, and the strong market for diecast vehicles has continued from sales earlier in the year. The undoubted highlight being a collection of diecast Rover car models from various manufacturers, which exceeded all expectations to achieve over £1800 and a single lot fetching £500.
Other toys performed well with a boxed Shakleton Foden six wheel Platform Lorry seeing the hammer fall at £280, to a buyer in the room, and a lovely Scalextric 1936 Auto Union racing car which was snapped up by an internet bidder for £260.
Following on from the success of collectors bears in our last sale, soft toys once again produced some fantastic results. A lot including a 1930’s Deans Rag Book Mickey Mouse and a 1930’s souvenir Man Friday Doll sold for £130. Two lots containing vintage teddies saw determined bidding from our internet buyers and the hammer fell at £140 and £200, suggesting a possible revival of interest from the public.
An interesting collection of bus drivers’ badges and safe driving awards caught the eye of four different internet bidders. After some furious bidding the hammer fell at £200.
Our sporting memorabilia section produced some interesting lots. The highlights of which were Five F.A. Cup final Programmes from the 1950’s. These included iconic matches such as the 1956 cup final between Birmingham City and Manchester City, where goal keeper Bert Troutmann broke his neck during the match, but played on till the end! The lot achieved a sale price of £60.
