Tamworth clients bask in glow of golden auction results for jewellery

TAMWORTH people are basking in the glow of golden results at auction, with jewellery consigned by clients from the town totalling more than £1,700 on the same day.

Also under the hammer that morning with Richard Winterton Auctioneers was a late Victorian gem set hinged bangle, which went to auction following a probate valuation.

The piece, circa 1890, made £1,200 at The Lichfield Auction Centre on Monday, March 20.

Midlands jewellery expert Georgina Southam MIRV FGA DGA BA (Hons) will be back at The Tamworth Auction Rooms in Church Street offering advice from 9am-4pm on Wednesday, April 5.

A specialist in gold and silver jewellery, gemstones, diamonds, watches and modern and antique jewellery, gemmologist Georgina has professional expertise in probate services and written insurance valuations.

This early 20th century 18ct gold opal and diamond ring sold for £220 on behalf of a Tamworth client.

“It’s wonderful to be able to surprise someone with the discovery of jewellery worth hundreds to thousands of pounds in a box which they thought was filled with random bits and pieces,” said Georgina.

“Sometimes people bringing in items for valuation just hand over the pieces they think might be worth something because they don’t want to waste your time.

“But we always ask to see everything as it can often be the case that things dismissed as rubbish have hidden treasures amongst them.

“Even objects of low value can be grouped together to make a lot to sell at auction – it’s amazing how quickly things can add up.

“Our goal is to make as much as we can for our clients.”

With more than 15 years in the industry, Georgina Southam MIRV FGA DGA BA (Hons) has been recognised by the Academy of Valuers for her dedication. She will be at The Tamworth Auction Rooms offering valuations and probate advice on Wednesday, April 5.

Valuations often entail inherited pieces or things discovered when sorting through a deceased relative’s estate, Georgina said.

She added: “Unsurprisingly, clients might have little idea as to any possible value as they didn’t acquire the items in the first place.

“Furthermore, they are faced with this conundrum at a stressful and often emotional time.
