Specialist jewellery auction in the heart of Tamworth
TAMWORTH’S auction house has unveiled its first specialist jewellery sale.
More than 200 lots of antique jewellery and accessories including silver vestas, bracelets, rings, necklaces, watches and gold go under the hammer with Richard Winterton Auctioneers in Church Street from 12 noon on Monday, May 30.
The sale at The Tamworth Auction Rooms includes a single owner collection of vintage jewellery amassed over some years.
Examples of lots going under the hammer include a lady’s gold Rolex cocktail watch dating back to 1932, expected to sell at around £400, and an early 20th century silver and tortoiseshell trinket box hallmarked 1911, which could fetch up to £200.
The catalogue can be viewed online via our Auction Dates page a week before the sale; viewing at 34-35 Church Street is by appointment – telephone 01827 217746.Free valuations at the Grade II listed town centre building have been providing Tamworth people with their own Antiques Roadshow moments since last October.
The family firm is an associate member of The National Association of Jewellers and offers free valuations on all gold, silver, watches and antique jewellery, with a team of registered valuers on site to assist with all consignments or provide advice.
The specialist jewellery auction includes a lady’s gold Rolex cocktail watch dating back to 1932, silver and tortoiseshell trinket box and Victorian locket set with turquoise.
“The market is strong for jewellery and timepieces of all kinds,” said watch specialist Ben Winterton.
“You might have some old heirlooms or pieces you no longer wear – they may not be to your taste but they will be to someone else’s.
“That’s the great aspect of going to auction. Whoever the buyer is, the item always goes to a good home because the purchaser only ever buys something they love.”
He added: “Over the past few years we have seen a steady increase in the value of antique and second-hand jewellery.
“With our new premises in Tamworth we’ve been delighted to offer advice to people on all kinds of items from Victorian gold to modern diamond sparklers.
“Come in and see us – first and foremost, we’re here to help.”
