Signed autograph book - as seen on BBC Midlands Today

Richard Winterton Auctioneers were delighted to be featured on BBC Midlands Today together with one of the lots to be sold in the Collector's Sale on 20th January. It follows the discovery of an exciting book of autographs that was brought in to one of our popular valuation events.

beatles.jpgThe autograph book (lot 27) contains an exciting array of autographs, including signatures of one of the most iconic bands of all time - The Beatles. The book contains signatures of all four band members.

For sporting fans, there are autographs of various West Ham United players - including Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters as well as autographs of Coventry City players.

The word "autograph" refers to a famous persons artisticwest ham fc.jpg signature. This term is used in particular for the practise of collecting autographs of heroes and icons such as sports stars and celebrities.

The most popular categories for autograph hunters are film stars, athletes, authors and scientists. Some autogrpah hunters target a certain group of people - there are many who focus on sports teams or the entire cast of a show. Depending on the team and how successful they are, the autographs could command a small fortune - a team autograph from the England 1966 team would fetch thousands!

The autograph book will be sold on 20th January at the Lichfield Saleroom, Cross Keys, Lichfield. The public are invited to view auction lots on 19th January from 2:00pm - 6:30pm and on the morning of the sale from 8:30am.
