This gold Georgian multi-gem set ‘Giardinetti’ – Italian for small garden’ – ring is designed as a basket of flowers set with diamonds, amethyst, emerald and ruby. Discovered during a routine valuation, the ring sold at auction for £1,450.
“The auction market remains strong for jewellery and timepieces of all kinds, from Victorian gold to modern diamond sparklers,” said watch specialist Ben Winterton.
“Sometimes people are gifted items or they find an heirloom they had half forgotten about and it’s always a good idea to get such jewellery checked by a professional.
“Discovering something you thought was worth £5 is actually worth £5,000 is a pretty special moment!”
He added: “Or perhaps you have some old jewellery you no longer wear – they may not be to your taste any more but they will certainly be to someone else’s.
“That’s the perfect position of auctions – the items always go to a good home.”
People can also leave items for valuations or direct consignment at the Church Street premises throughout the week.
Free home visits for bulky items and large collections or to discuss quotations for full or partial house clearances are also available.
