Medals, coins, jewellery and antiques valuation event supporting Burton Albion Community Trust

October 24th, 2024

Burton Albion Community Trust Valuations 1 Oct 2024

Special valuations at Burton Albion Community Football Centre on Tuesday, November 5, from 11am-1pm

REMEMBER remember the fifth of November – for that’s the date of a special antiques valuation event in aid of Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT).

A team from Richard Winterton Auctioneers will be offering advice on medals, militaria, coins, banknotes, jewellery, watches, gold and antiques at the Community Football Centre on Tuesday, November 5, from 11am-1pm.

Specialist advice is free and people are encouraged to just drop in with their items for valuation.

Half of the vendor’s commission on items sold at auction following consignment at the event will be donated to BACT.

The community trust’s range of programmes to Inspire, Engage and Educate deliver opportunities for people of all ages across the area.

Representing Richard Winterton Auctioneers on November 5 will be medals and militaria consultant Nick Thompson and numismatist Phil Bridge who will be offering advice on all kinds of coins and banknotes.

They will join the jewellery and antiques valuation team of Isabel Murtough and Erica Conroy.

Katie Johnson, BACT community manager, said: “We are delighted to have formed this partnership with Richard Winterton Auctioneers and are grateful for their support of our programmes.

“It is lovely to be able to invite members of the community into our building to get antiques and items valued and then also see members of the community benefit through our programmes.

“We really encourage people to come down and see the team with their items.”

Coin specialist Phil said: “Any aspect which makes the coin in question stand out is important.

“For example, any coin can be mis-struck and when that happens it can be worth much more to collectors than its face value suggests.

“So check your money banks, coin pots, pockets and purses and come and see me at Burton Albion Community Trust and let’s see if you are sitting on a fortune!”

Militaria consultant Nick added: “History, and in particular military history, has been around for centuries and always provides fascinating stories to those who are interested.

“Almost everyone has a grandad or aunt or other relative who served our country in some way or another, and one of the physical reminders of their service comes in the form of medals or awards.

“Items of militaria including uniforms, helmets, caps and field kit are also all collectable, as too are service records, war diaries, personal items and photos.

“When presented together with medals history especially comes to life and such groups attract strong interest from collectors at auction.”

Valuations for coins, medals, militaria, jewellery, watches, gold and antiques take place between 11am and 1pm on Tuesday, November 5, at Burton Albion Community Trust, Pirelli Stadium Princess Way, Burton Albion Community Football Centre, Burton-on-Trent DE13 0AR.
