Huge collection of Mouseman furniture

RICHARD Winterton Auctioneers is delighted to be auctioning a single owner collection of Mouseman furniture across nine lots in the Fine Arts & Specialist Sale on Wednesday, December 11, at The Lichfield Auction Centre.

Lots 480-488 comprise a wall hanging corner cupboard, a rectangular coffee table, a two-tier tea trolley, a blanket chest, two standard lamps, a nest of three tables, a 7ft refectory table with eight lattice back chairs (Lot 487, pictured) and a 5ft sideboard, all in pale oak.

Each piece features the carved mouse signature as expected from the workshop of Robert Mouseman Thompson.

Senior valuer Sarah Leedham said: “The pieces are made using the best quality English oak by true craftsman who utilise traditional tools and techniques including the adze which gives the surface of the pieces the instantly recognisable honeycomb look.

"Mouseman furniture is timeless and fits effortlessly into period and modern homes.

"Although the original Mouseman died in 1955 his workshop has continued to produce such high-quality pieces that his legacy lives on”.

Tom Winterton, associate director and furniture valuer, added: "It fills us with great excitement to be able to offer such a wonderful collection which has been lovingly bought over the last 60 years.

"We know that there will be plenty of people wanting to acquire these investment items for themselves.”

Richard Winterton's Fine Arts & Specialist Sale on Wednesday, December 11, commences 10am. Viewing is on Saturday, December 7, from 9.30am-12noon; Tuesday, December 10, 9am-4pm; and on day of sale from 8.30am.
