Howzat! Meet our new sporting valuer

A SPECIALIST in the field of sporting memorabilia has joined the team at Richard Winterton Auctioneers.

Ian Allsop brings his wealth of knowledge to The Lichfield Auction Centre, where he will be offering free valuations between 9am and 12 noon every Tuesday, starting from October 15.

Ian, who lives near Derby, has a lifetime’s interest in sporting memorabilia.

From starting out collecting Derby County FC programmes and checking out Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s end-of-season auctions, Ian’s interest gathered momentum to take in a huge range of sports from rugby and athletics to fishing, boxing and baseball.

He used to be secretary of the Derbyshire County Cricket Supporters Club and also played in a local team in Derby, becoming the fixtures secretary and taking the team to places such as Clun in Shropshire and the Isle of Arran.

Ian still enjoys a game of cricket today.

He has recently catalogued the huge Jan Webster Sporting Memorabilia Collection, which goes under the hammer with Richard Winterton Auctioneers on Monday, October 14, from 2pm at The Lichfield Auction Centre, Wood End Lane, Fradley Park WS13 8NF.

Scrum-half Webster made his England rugby debut against Wales in 1972 at Twickenham and earned 11 caps for his country over the three years up to 1975.

Ian described his archive as “a comprehensive collection of most sports you could think of”.

Richard Winterton said: “Ian carries a wealth of sporting knowledge and we are delighted he will be joining us here at The Lichfield Auction Centre, adding to our expanding line-up of valuers who are as passionate as they are knowledgeable about their field.

“Ian has done a wonderfully comprehensive job cataloguing our upcoming Jan Webster collection.

“His valuation mornings are a fantastic opportunity for local collectors of sporting memorabilia to come and discuss their treasures.”
