Richard Winterton Auctioneers are pleased to report a hugely successful fourth collectors sale of the year. Up for grabs were a large amount of toys, cameras, cigarette cards, records and ephemera. As has become expected from the Cross Keys saleroom, we had a very strong turn out and there were certainly plenty of bidders online from around the world, resulting in some fantastic bidding and great results.

Our large selection of toys generated much interest, in particular, diecast vehicles were in demand, highlights of which include two lots of boxed Formula 1 cars from the 1970’s to 1990’s making over £100 each. Several lots of boxed model cars from various European manufacturers also sold strongly, as did several lots of unboxed and assorted play worn diecast vehicles. Other toys performed well with modern limited edition collectors bears surpassing pre-sale estimates with two examples by Marie Robischon selling for £150 and £240.

Cameras sold strongly with a nice example of a 1959 Leica M3 Camera, fitted with a Summicron 5cm 1:2 Lens and other lenses fetching an amazing £600 from an Internet buyer.

Vinyl records continue to attract strong interest with six boxes of vinyl L.P. records featuring an eclectic mix of artists including The Beatles, Frank Sinatra and Hawkwind being bought by a buyer in the room for £650 whilst another collection of 12 L.P.’s by the Beatles was snapped up for £180.

Once again our cartophilic buyers were out in force and every lot in the auction was sold, highlighted by the acquisition of a collection of Wills Ltd. (Australian Issue) cigarette cards for £100.

A collection of late 19th century, early 20th century whistles including many examples by Acme was purchased by a private buyer for £140.

An interesting collection of theatre ephemera, including theatre bills from as early as 1779, theatre programmes and a collection of posters from 1900, attracted much interest from the room and on the Internet. Undoubtedly the star of this particular section was a collection of bills from the Theatre Royal Birmingham dating from 1802 to 1875, which included a Publicity review for Prof. F.S. Rollinson, the ‘World Champion Burlesque Bicycle Rider’ and a production from 1802 of Artaxerxes, which went under the hammer for £380. Two similar lots also reached over £240. A Poster from the opening night of the New Carlton Theatre, Saltley on July 16th 1900 featuring Pooles’s Myriorama, ‘Soldiers of the Queen – Under One Flag’ sold for £190.
