Whisky Ws

Whisky, Wine, Port & Cigars

ON THIS PAGE

This department provides clients with estimates for auction purposes on their fine wines and spirits – from a single bottle to an entire cellar.

We have built up an enviable reputation in this complicated field with previous specialist wine and whisky sections achieving 100 per cent selling rate at auction.

With free valuations available by appointment at Fradley every Wednesday, it's never been easier to consign your whisky, wine, port and other alcohol for sale by auction.

Past sales have included cases of fine world wines, Dom Perignon champagne, vintage ports and of course whiskies, such as a bottle of The Macallan 25th anniversary which sold at £4,600 and a special bottling of Laphroaig c.1950s which made £3,300!

Other Scottish single malts which prove popular at auction include Clynelish, Benromach, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Glenlugie, Brora, Bowmore, Ben Wyvis and ‘lost’ distilleries such as Glen Mhor, St Magdalene and Ladyburn.

Japanese whisky has its own proud heritage and traditions, offering innovative and complex flavours from distilleries such as Yamazaki, Hakusku and Nikka garnering huge respect and credibility.

Fine Irish whiskey and American bourbon have their own following, with revered brands of the former including Bushmills, Midleton, Jameson and Tullamore Dew. Popular American whiskey includes Stagg, Old Forester, Benheim, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey 101, Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace and Bookers.

Whereas whisky only matures in the cask – once it is bottled it will taste exactly the same, provided it has been stored correctly, even after many years – port, like fine wine, will continue to mature in the bottle for half a century or more if kept properly.

Names to look out for include Warres, Graham’s, Niepoort, Quinta do Noval and Sandeman's, with good years including 1966, 1977, 1983, 1985, 1992, 1995, 2003 and 2007.

We also handle collectable cigars from antique to modern, which also attract worldwide interest. Brands include Henri Wintermans, La Corona, Willem II, Momax, Cuban, Chancellor, Romeo Y Julieta and Louixs. A single-owner collection of fine cigars including Cohiba Esplendidos and Montecristo No.4 went under the hammer for £1,580 in one of our specialist auctions.

Next auction Monday 24th March - consign now, closing date Friday 21st February.
