Coins & Banknotes
Overview
Our specialist coin sales have gone from strength to strength and attract interest from a global audience.
We offer a leading service catering for sellers and buyers alike and advice is given on the dispersal of entire coin collections or a single sovereign.
This is backed up by numismatic knowledge accrued through decades of dedication, an acute awareness of current market prices and that crucial effect of condition and scarcity.
Auction highlights include a golden haul of coins put together by a Staffordshire collector, which realised in excess of £100,000 at The Lichfield Auction Centre.
Other successes were an ‘exceptional’ coin collection put together by a Tamworth ex-serviceman which totalled a hammer price of £25,980 and a number of Isle of Man Christmas 50p coins, which sold online from The Lichfield Auction Centre for a total hammer price of £9,640.
Also in the headlines was a collection of rare banknotes from Borneo and the Straits Settlements, which had been stored in a Midlands garage for five years before the vendor sought advice from Richard Winterton Auctioneers. Printed in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, the collection totalled £7,950 including a single 1922 British North Borneo Company $5 note which sold for £900.
Specialist valuations of coins and banknotes with Phil Bridge are available by appointment at The Lichfield Auction Centre and The Tamworth Auction Rooms. Book by telephone or email (Lichfield) 01543 251081 office@richardwinterton.co.uk or (Tamworth) 01827 217746 tamworth@richardwinterton.co.uk.
We also offer formal written valuations of collections for insurance, probate, family division and asset purposes at attractive rates based on a minimum and hourly charge. Clear and concise documents are prepared to keep for your records and to send to your insurance company/solicitor to be used in the event of a claim or legal purposes.
